I sat in Kevin's car, still crying, Kevin's scarf still on my knee, heading to who knows where.
What I didn't notice, however, was that Nick and Hilary were in the back seat.
I did notice when Nick poked my shoulder.
I reacted by screaming, which caused Kevin to swerve a little in surprise on the highway.
"Holy crap, Nick, what's your problem?!"
I held my hand where my heart was beating and closed my eyes.
"Sorry... I just wanted to know why you-" I interrupted him.
"What are you doing in Kevin's car anyway? I thought I ditched you two" I said flatly.
"Well, after you drove off, I called Kevin to pick us up. We went home and you weren't there, so we were worried. We went to look for you. Hilary suggested the park, which is, she said, where you like to vent, so we came here and you know the rest."
"Okay..." I sniffed hard.
I slowly removed the scarf and looked at the wound underneath.
I shut my eyes tightly as I put the scarf back.
It stung so bad.
"Where are we going?" I choked out.
"We're going to see a friend of mine. He knows how to treat things like this and will do it for free if I ask." Kevin answered.
We arrived at a huge house.
Kevin walked around the car, opened the door, and picked me up again.
He carried me to the door as Nick ran in front of him, unlocked the door and opened it.
Kevin laid me on a large fuzzy couch.
"Wait here." He walked away and I heard voices talking.
A guy about Kevin's age walked up to me and removed Kevin's scarf.
"Wow..." he said. "I'll need two cloths, wet them both, ring out only one. And a large bandage with that tape-like stuff. It's in the bathroom in the middle right cabinet. Oh, and a bag of ice to slow the swelling."
Nick and Kevin walked away.
"Hello, Sarah. My name is Jeff. I'm Kevin's friend. I'm going to fix you up here."
I just stared around awkwardly, laying on the couch stiffly.
Nick and Kevin came back with the items asked for.
Jeff took the dry cloth and sopped up the wet blood.
Then he took the wet cloth and cleaned the dried blood off my leg.
Then he wrapped a huge bandage over my wound and stuck it there with sticky paper-ish stuff.
He then put the bag of ice over the bandage.
I swallowed and said, "Thanks, Jeff."
"No problem. That'll take a while to heal, and there will be a bruise for a while after it heals. Get up and try to stand."
I did as he said and almost fell over.
Nick caught me. He felt warm and comforting to me again.
He smiled and helped me back on the couch (sitting up).
"What do I do if I can't walk? Kevin can't carry me all the time."
"Right. Um, I think I have a spare crutch around here somewhere..."
He left in search of a crutch.
He came back with a crutch.
He gave it to me and said, "Try to walk now."
I stood up and walked around the room with the crutch.
"Alright." he clapped. "You can keep it until you can walk again."
I smiled. Then I remembered something.
"Oh crap! My car! I can't just leave it at the park... and there's no way I can drive it..."
"Jeff, can you come along and drive Sarah's car back with us?" Kevin asked.
"Sure, why not?"
I smiled again. This guy was very kind. So was Kevin.
But what do I do about Nick?
And especially Joe.
