Break My Heart - Chapter 13

Joe scooted closer to me.
"Sarah..."
"What?"
My eyes were open wide.
I chewed my gum faster.
"Sarah..."
"Um, what?"
He was silent for a minute.
He just stared into my eyes.
Then he broke the silence.
"I love you."
My eyes grew wider.
I swallowed hard, causing my throat to make a 'gulp' sound.
I swallowed my gum from the shock.
A strange feeling fell to the pit of my stomach.
My heart started beating faster.
Joe leaned in and kissed me quite passionately.
We pulled away after a minute or two.
We just stared into each other's eyes.
In my mind, I couldn't help but repeat the words, 'holy crap' over and over.
I just sat there awestruck.
"Joe... I... I... I gotta go!"
I ran out the door as fast as I could.
I ran and finally ended up at my friend, Keila's house.
My other friend, Gabi, was there, too.
"You... will... freak!" I yelled.
Keila and Gabi were playing the Wii.
"Just a sec!" Keila yelled as they finished up a game of Mario Kart.
"What is it?"
"It's about Joe!"
"Oh great, what did he do this time?"
"He... he said... and...and I... and ... holy freakin' crap!"
"I see. So... I'm guessing... good thing?"
"That's what I don't know. Normally it would be. But I just don't know."
"Okay. And what happened exactly?"
"Joe... said... meep!"
"Um... he said 'meep'?!"
"No, no, no. He said... three certain words..."
"You don't mean...?"
"Yes."
Keila and Gabi started screaming their heads off.
"Guys! Problem here!"
"How is this a problem?! Joe Jonas just told you he loves you!"
"Yeah, but... I'm not sure if I love him back!"
"How can you not? Think of all the awesome things about him!" Gabi chimed.
"Yes, but think of the bad things about him!" Keila argued.
"I think there are more good than bad."
"Yes but sometimes the bad things can overpower the good things no matter how many good things there are."
"Guys! I have a problem!"
"Sorry." They said in unison.
"I don't know what I should do, guys! I'm reluctant about everything!"
"I'm surprised you used reluctant properly in a sentence!" Gabi said.
"Hey!"
"Sorry. Just speakin' my mind, here."
"Well don't, unless your mind happens to wander to the current subject."
"Okay, Sarah, what do you think?" Keila asked.
"I don't know what I think! I want you to tell me what I think!"
"We can't do that, sorry."
"Well it would help an awful lot."
We were silent for a few minutes.
Then the silence was broken by the doorbell.
"I got it!" Keila walked to the door and opened it.
She gasped a little.
"Oh hi. Come in."
The person walked in and to my dismay (Actually, I wasn't sure if it was dismay or joy) it was Joe.
"Hello, ladies." He said sitting on the couch.
"Hey, Joe!" Gabi had a smile on her face.
I was silent the whole time.
"So, let's play some Wii!" Joe said.
I looked at Keila.
"Sorry, I forgot I invited him over." She whispered.
I sighed.
"Oh, I gotta go home, now. Bye, guys."
I hurried out of the big yellow house.
Now what am I supposed to do?

Break My Heart - Chapter 12

I stopped playing and pointed annoyingly pointed at the window across mine.
Joe turned to the girl next to him and said something.
She nodded and left.
Then Joe did some sort of spazzy dance all around the living room.
I couldn't help it.
I got up and went to his house.
I walked in without knocking and Joe was still dancing crazily.
I grabbed his shoulders and forced him to stop.
"Sarah! What a surprise!" he said.
"Shut up and tell me what the freakin' heck is going on!"
"Ah! So I got your attention!"
"Yeah. Why?"
"Well because you cannot resist me, love." he used a Jack Sparrow voice.
"Stop it, Joe!"
"No."
"Okay. Well? Why did you want me over here?"
"I told you. You already know."
"Well, what would happen if I didn't know?"
"Oh, well you'd have to figure it out on your own."
"Joe!"
"La la la la la la laaaaa!"
"Joe, I command you to tell me what you freakin' want!"
"I don't want to."
"Too freakin' bad!"
"I'm not going to tell you anything."
"Then why am I over here?"
"Because you're very curious."
"If you won't tell me anything, do you have anything to tell?"
"Sorta."
"Um, what does that mean?"
"It is an abbreviation for sort of."
I slapped his arm.
"Ow! What? You asked what-"
"That's not what I meant!"
"Okay, fine."
He sighed and sat on the couch, motioning me to sit with him.
"Sorta, meaning I want to show you. Because you won't do anything if I tell you."
"Um... huh?"
He turned to me without any facial expression whatsoever.
He looked me in the eyes.
I chewed the gum that was in my mouth.
What the fudge was going on?

Break My Heart - Chapter 11

I couldn't stop thinking about Joe for the next week.
I was lucky it was summer, because there would've been no possible way to get schoolwork done.
My family referred to me as the hermit.
I didn't leave my room except to pee, eat, shower, etc.
I played my guitar or just laid on my bed staring at the ceiling fan.
And during the whole time, I couldn't really concentrate on anything but Joe.
Even when the ceiling fan started to hypnotize me.
(Which happened often)
I realized that I kept walking away from my problems.
It was frustrating, and I had no doubts that Joe felt the same.
He and his brothers were going to be leaving in a week for a few months.
I had 7 days to decide whether or not I was to let myself fall.

I had also noticed that my sister, Marissa, had dyed her hair black and started wearing dark clothes and makeup.
She didn't talk. At all. She started using sign language!
Nobody could understand her.
My parents got really mad at her.
The only currently normal child was Hilary.
Who was, let's face it, blonde.
(Yes, both meanings.)

I looked out my window and into the one next door.
It was the Jonas' living room.
I knew nobody was home but Joe.
He was sitting on the couch with a glum face.
I bit my lip and sighed.
Then his head turned and his face lit up.
He got up and I saw someone enter the room.
It was a girl with blonde hair and covered in sequins.
Joe hugged and they sat on the couch together, snuggling.
I bottom eye lid twitched madly.
I quickly opened the window and stuck my head out.
I noticed his window was opened, too.
I quickly grabbed my electric guitar and placed the amp near the window.
I played a loud and angry rock song.
I kept my head down, away from the window.
I made a frustrated face.
I looked out the window through the corner of my eye.
I saw Joe and whatever (must I use harsh words?) was in his arms, look out the window.
Joe smirked.
Apparently, his plan (whatever that was) was working.

Break My Heart - Chapter 10

There's no way I could fall for him again!
Not after what he did to me.
At least... not yet. If ever.
"Um, Joe?" I asked.
"Yeah?"
"I think I want to go away now."
"Why?"
"Because. I just want to."
"But I want to you to stay."
"Well, too bad. I'm going now."
I picked up my guitar, strummed the strings mockingly and left.
I could feel Joe staring at me as I walked away.
I got into the backseat of my car and slid down so nobody could see me.
I grabbed my little parascope (Yes, I have a parascope. Don't you?) and looked out the window.
I saw Joe stare at my car with a half confused half amused look.
"It's like you don't know me at all, Joe!" I whispered to myself.
Then I saw him acting like a mime.
He was the most random mime ever, no lies.
I couldn't help but laugh almost all the way through, which, unfortunately made me jiggle my parascope, making it more noticeable.
I saw Joe do sort of an, "Aha!" motion as he pointed at my car.
I sighed and climbed onto the seat.
Joe gave me a, "Get over here!" look.
I got out of the car and walked over to him.
"What do you freakin' want?"
"I think you already know."
"What makes you think I'll come back, hm?"
"One word, love." Joe did a Jack Sparrow accent. "Curiosity."
"Stop it, Joe!"
"Aha, but why would I stop, love, I know your weakness!"
"Yeah, well, I know yours!"
"Oh yeah?"
"Yeah. Your stuffed armadillo."
"How did you know about Bernie?!"
"So you admit it!"
"Oh!... You, little... person!"
I stuck out my tongue.
"I shall one day get you for this, love! Or, um.. now!"
My eyes widened and Joe chased me around the park.
I tripped and Joe got an evil smile.
I turned around, still on the ground. (Woah, I can rhyme!)
Joe got down on both knees and tickled me until I couldn't breathe.
"Joe!!" I screamed. "Stop!! No!!"
He finally stopped and I caught my breath as I stood up.
I couldn't breathe very well at all.
I ran to my car and grabbed the funny white plastic thing in the giant pocket.
I sucked into my inhaler and turned to Joe.
"What the heck is wrong with you?"
"There's nothing wrong with me."
"Uh, yeah, there is!"
"Name one."
"You're crazy, you keep talking like Jack Sparrow, you act like we're still together..."
"Woah! I said one."
"Too bad. Bye bye."
I turned around and sat in the driver's seat of my car.
This Joe-ller coaster was making me dizzy.
When would it end?

Break My Heart - Chapter 9

About a month passed and I hadn't talked to Joe since.
I didn't talk to anyone.
I just sat in my room all day every day playing my guitar.
I got out my electric guitar, now.
I sang a song I liked that fit this situation almost perfectly.

There were places we would at midnight
There were secrets that nobody else would know
There's a reason but I don't know why
I don't know why
I don't know why

Who's that girl?
Where's she from?
No, she can't be the one
That you want
That has stolen my world
It's not real, it's not right
It's my day, it's my night
By the way
Who's that girl living my life?
Oh no, living my life

I looked over at the stereo beside me and saw that it was recording.
And for some reason it wouldn't let me delete it.
Also, it had accidentally sent itself to Joe!
Oh no! Oh no! Oh no!
What's he gonna say?!
Oh well. I'll just drive to the park and possibly live there and become a hobo.
So I went to the park to play my guitar in real sunlight.
I got there and brought my guitar to my usual thinking spot.
I got my guitar ready and was about to play, when I heard someone else play a song on their guitar.
It sounded very close.
I just stayed still and listened.
He played it very well, and then started to sing:

In life nothings certain
You'll never know when it'll happen
Some burn out while some fade away
It doesn't matter we're heading that way

If I had the time
I'll spend it with you

Time gets you old and weary
Like a lifeless ordinary
Some burn out while some fade away
I don't want you to go
I want you to stay

If I could turn back the time
I'd spend it with you

I want you to know
Even though you're gone
That I'm drowning in tears

I wish you were here
And hear me say
Believe me, I'm sorry

Feels like everythings undone
Peace of mind still I haven't found
And time will heal those broken mends
I know it will come, but when will it end?

The person stopped and sighed.
It sounded like he was behind the tree I was sitting at.
I started to play and sing my song, too.
When I was done, I heard the person get up and come to where I was.
"Sarah?" He said.
You're surprised?
I looked up to see exactly who I thought it was.
"Hi."
"I forgot how well you sang."
"......Nice song."
"I...I wrote it for you."
"Thank you, Joseph, but I'm not ready to forgive you." I got up and started walking away.
"Sarah!" He gently grabbed my arm.
"Yes?" I wasn't angry. I wasn't happy, either. Just calm.
"I want you to know that me and Marissa are done."
"Wonderful." I said not so enthusiastically.
"How long do we continue not talking?" He said acting as Will Turner.
Dangit, he knew that was my favorite movie!
I couldn't resist and said, "As soon as we rescue Jack everything will be fine." I said it acting as Elizabeth.
I smiled a little.
"Then we rescue Jack!" He smiled hugely.
I looked away and tried not to smile.
"Ah! I got you to smile at last!"
"What do you want from me, Joe?" I was still smiling.
"Can't you guess?" He answered quietly, his smile fading.
He looked into my eyes.
I quickly looked down.
Could I be re-falling for him?

Break My Heart - Chapter 8

What is he doing here?!
The dude helped me up.
I kept my head down as I brushed myself off and walked away without confirming who it was.
"Wait!" He yelled and gently grabbed my arm.
Now I was angry. I knew who it was. I could tell.
"What do you want?!" I yelled as I quickly turned around.
"I need to talk to you." The dark, straight haired, 18 year old boy said.
"No."
I turned around and walked away.
He ran in front of me and got in my way.
"Move." I said very firmly.
"No."
"Move, Joe!"
"No!"
"MOVE!"
"No!"
I got really angry. I kicked him in the shin with my normal leg.
He backed away as he yelled, "Ow!" and I quickly went to find Kevin or Jeff.
I felt one of my eyes water. Oh great. I don't want unneeded sympathy.
I eventually found Jeff in the kitchen drinking a glass of water.
"Jeff, do you know why Joe is here?"
"Yeah, he came over to get something."
"Okay, well, if he asks where I am, tell him I'm dead."
"Why.."
I left before he could answer.
I opened the door and went into Kevin's car.
I locked it so only Kevin could get in.
He was the only one I trusted at the moment.
I laid my head on the back of the passenger seat and sighed.
It was still raining hard.
Then I started to quietly sing to myself.

Let's go back
Back to the beginning
Back to when the earth, the sun, the stars all aligned.
'Cause perfect doesn't feel so perfect
Trying o fit a square into a circle was no life
I defy

Let the rain fall down
And wake my dreams
Let it wash away
My sanity
'Cause I wanna feel the thunder
I wanna scream
Let the rain fall down
I'm coming clean

I sighed again and unlocked the car from the inside.
I got out and went back to the house.
As I was about to open the door, it opened.
Well, somebody opened it.
And that somebody happened to be Joe.
He was a bit surprised at first.
He stepped out of the doorway and closed the door.
"Sarah, listen. I-"
"Save it."
I tried to move around him. He moved and stayed in front of me.
"Joseph, I am not in the mood right now." I said flatly.
"Well, get in the mood!"
"What if I don't want to?"
"Do it anyway."
"No, I don't think I will."
I tried to get around him again, but he stopped me. Again.
"JOE!!!" I yelled angrily. "If you think I will ever forgive you for-"
I was interrupted.
Joe kissed me!
How could he kiss me in this situation.
It did feel very nice, though...
What am I saying?!
Surprisingly, I didn't pull away for a few seconds.
When I pulled away he smiled at me and I started to melt.
I quickly snapped out of it, though and slapped him.
"Ow!"
I turned around and tried to go to... well, anywhere but there!
Surprisingly, Joe just stood there, rubbing his cheek.
Just then, a familiar boy came out of the large house next door.
He walked up to me.
"Sarah?"
"Luke?"
It was my old friend Luke!
"I'm so happy you're here!" I exclaimed.
"I feel the same."
I looked over at Joe and he looked a bit angry.
"Listen, Luke, can you do me a favor?"
"Anything."
"Good. Kiss me."
"What?!"
"Just do it!"
"Okay..?"
So he kissed me for about ten seconds then pulled away.
"Why did-"
"Shh. Just smile."
"Okay." So he smiled.
I looked over at Joe again he was coming over to where we were.
"Quick, hold my hand." I grabbed his hand.
"Why-"
"Shh!"
Joe came over with his arms crossed.
I did my best acting.
"Joe, have you met my boyfriend, Luke?"
"What?!" Luke sorta yelled. I elbowed him.
"Oh. Yeah! Mhmm." His fingers entwined with mine.
"No, I'm afraid I haven't." Joe said crossly.
"Luke Wendelson, here, is my boyfriend." I faked a smile.
"I see. And might I ask how long you two have been dating?" he said in a harsh tone.
"Oh, only as long as you have been dating Marissa." I smirked.
Joe's eyes widened.
In my head I was taunting at him.
Ha, ha, ha, haa, haaa!
His eyes then turned to Luke and glared.
Luke grinned.
Joe turned around and went into the house.
Now how long do I avoid talking to him?

Break My Heart - Chapter 7

As we walked out the door, I noticed something.
"Where's Hilary?" I asked.
We all looked around. No Hilary.
"Hilary! Hilary!" We all yelled.
Then I noticed that Nick was suddenly gone.
"Hey, where'd Nick go?" Kevin asked.
"Okay, what the fudge is going on?" I yelled.
"Well, I guess we'll have to look around the house.." Said Jeff.
So we searched the house.
I decided to look in the rooms over on the right side of the house.
I looked in a blue room. Nothing.
I looked in the orange room. Nothing.
I looked in the green room. Nothing.
I looked in the red room. Not- hey!
I saw Nick and Hilary sitting on a big bed, making out.
"Get a room!!" I yelled as they pulled away. "Oh wait... I guess you did... well.. hm..."
They looked at me weird. I shook my head.
"This is not the time and place for this! Ha! I found the right words!"
Nick walked up to me and pointed at something behind me.
"What... is... that?!" He stammered, as if Dracula was about to bite me.
I quickly turned around.
SLAM!
He slammed the door on me!
I tried to open it, but he locked it.
"Grr... KEVIN!!"
Kevin came running to me.
"What's wrong?"
"I found them. They're in there makin' out. They locked the door."
"What?" He knocked on the door. No answer.
He looked at me. He pulled a key from his pocket and unlocked the door.
He opened it. Nobody there.
He looked at me strangely.
"Where'd they go?!" I was surprised.
"Are you sure they were in here?"
"Yes! I saw them! I talked to them! They were here!"
Kevin looked confused.
He looked under the bed and in the closet. No one.
I went to the window.
It was open and a rope of sheets were hanging down from it.
"Um, Kevin... come look at this."
He came over and looked out the window.
"They wouldn't...."
"Apparently, they would."
"But why?"
"Who the heck knows?!"
He ran out of the room.
I followed as fast as I could without falling over my crutch.
"Uh, wait for me...!(?)"
I couldn't catch up to him and fell flat on my face.
"Um... ow."
I heard footsteps from behind me.
"Sarah, you okay?"
Hey, that wasn't Kevin's voice.
Not Jeff's either.
And it wasn't Nick or Hilary.
Yet I was all too familiar with the voice.
Oh, crap. Not him. Not now.
